Inexpensive airlines?

Hi everybody,

I'm looking to go to Florida and have determined that flying will be the least expensive way to get there. However, I need to reduce my costs as much as possible and would like to know if anyone has suggestions for an inexpensive flight. Thanks!

Becky

Hi there,

To some extent, the expense of the flight depends on the airport you're going to, the airport you're coming from, and the length of time between booking and travel. I pay more to travel in and out of my home city because its airport is smaller (go figure) than I would to fly in and out of Toronto.

I don't know whether you're comfortable telling us what cities you're flying to and from, and roughly when. It'd probably be easier to seek out info that way.

Failing that, search sites like CheapFlights.com and expedia.com may help you cobble something together.

A site I've used is
http://www.cheapoair.com
I live in Florida and other airlines I've checked are jetblue, southwest airlines and Delta airlines. Also, if you feel comfortable with having to stop at multiple cities before getting to your destination that would make your flight more cheap instead of a direct one.
I hope this helps!

Hi guys,

I see. So I'm guessing that since Murfreesboro is rather small, it'd be cheaper to fly to Fort Myers from Nashville than it would be to fly from the airport here. I'll check all of the sites that were posted as well. Thanks for all the suggestions!

It will probably be cheaper to fly out of Nashville, yes, but give Murfreesborough a look, see what happens. They might make you transfer in Nashville anyway, if there are no direct flights. Stupid but true. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

Wait. Murfreesboro? I've lived there for a year or five. I think Nashville is the closest commercial airport anyway, isn't it?

You're right, it is. I thought I'd heard that we'd finally gotten a commercial airport, but apparently not. Nashville it is, then. lol

Also I know it is far but see if you can fly in to miami and or tampa because those airports are larger and you might be able to work with the pricing. I just started using kayak on my iPhone and absolutely love it. Am prob butchering the spelling, sorry for that. Hotwire is good to and when you book over the phone they don't charge any kind of extra fees.

I was shocked to see they actually got a bus system.*
* For suitably small values of "system". Actually a huge impetus for my moving was the lack of transit infrastructure, unless you were content to use their van service for the elderly and disabled, which stopped running at ... I wanna say ... 4:30? Something?
